Celebrating Baby Lucy

Last weekend my mom and I threw a baby shower for my best friend, Ellen.  She is expecting a baby girl named Lucy any day now!  It was so much fun planning and setting things up.  I really had fun with all the "pink"!  It was a change for me.  I loved how everything turned out and I think everyone had a lot of fun.

Here is the invitation we used:  (The picture is actually of Ellen (taken by Sarah Rogers: who is AMAZING!).

I made a diaper cake which was really a lot of fun to make.  I followed directions from a website and it was really easy.  I used baby lotion and a baby bottle to keep it together.  The best advice I have is to use double-sided tape.  It made putting on the ribbons, pacifiers, and bows really easy.  We also used it to add ribbon to a candy jar for the grandmothers-to-be.  We gave both of the grandma's a clear jar of Hershey kisses that said "it's a girl" for them to keep on their desks at work.  One of my friends, Harriet, did this for my mom when Noah was born and she loved it!

I think the decorations turned out pretty cute.  We made a clothes line for the mantle (DeDe did this for me at a shower)  and an "It's a Girl" sign.

The favors were easy to make too.  I ordered the "it's a girl" stickers from Etsy but they would be easy to make if you are creative.  Thankfully, the stores had pink M & M's because of Valentine's Day so it worked perfectly.

As for the games, I wanted to do something different.  I found the idea for the 1st game online and it was a lot of fun.  We played a "Celebrity Baby" game.  I printed off pictures of 15 celebrity's babies.  We passed them around and everyone had to guess what famous person the baby belonged to.  Shelley (Ellen's sister) won..she got almost all of them!

The 2nd game was one I played at another baby shower.  It was Baby BINGO.  I just put a # on each person's gift and gave everyone a blank BINGO board.  Everyone filled in the boards with the numbers 1-25 in any order.  As Ellen opened each present, she called out the number.  It was a fun game that kept everyone's attention while Ellen opened her gifts.  We had 3 winners!

For prizes,   I wrapped up some Pier 1 candles that I found in the clearance section and put an "It's a Girl" sticker on them.

In terms of food, we made lots of goodies.  We had brownies, red velvet cake balls, Charleston Cheese dip, Spinach Dip, Brie Cheese, apples with fruit dip, and egg and chicken salad sandwiches.  We also had some yummy drinks.  We made Cherry Limeade, Lemonade, Sweet Tea, and Yellow Bird.

The best part of the shower was the cupcakes!  Our friend, Michelle, made them and they were so cute and SO good!  She is so talented!

All in all, it was a great day!  We had so much fun and we can't wait for sweet baby Lucy to arrive!
